Do it yourself | Baby bum soft face? Yes please!

When it comes to skin care, there are a lot of products on the market. Cheap, really cheap, moderate, expensive and some that cost you an arm and a leg ..and maybe your other arm too. But what if I told you that you can get even better results by using the things that you'll find in your kitchen cupboards? Yes. Not only are they all natural ingredients, but they actually do work. Now, I wont take any credit for this as it was recommended to me by my lovely cousin but what she did say was "try it and see if you don't say *insert her name* told me so" ..Girl, you definitely told me so.

Before I begin telling you how to make this, let me tell you what each ingredient is good for.. you'll be surprised. So read on.

1) Black seed

- Anti inflammatory

- Exfoliating

- Please do not use this if you have sensitive skin, apparently it could cause itchy skin which may lead to blisters. However, this did not happen to me so if you still want to add black seed, please do a patch test somewhere away from your face first. These bad boys are very powerful.

2) Honey

- Supple and glowy skin

- Moisturising

- Wound healing

- Protects skin from damage for example, sun damage which leads to premature ageing (wrinkles!)

3) Lemon juice

- Bleaching properties: reduces the appearance of acne scars and blemishes over time

- Anti-Bacterial: heals acne

- Removes blackheads over time

- Exfoliating: lemon juice is acidic so it gently removes the outer layer of dead skin cells

- Brighter and smoother complexion

4) Extra virgin olive oil

- Moisturiser

- Vitamin A: healthy, natural glow

- Vitamin E: promotes youthfulness and slows down the ageing process

So now you know what each ingredient does, do you want to know how to make this mask/exfoliant? If yes, then please, carry on reading!

1) Roast: Black seed is usually raw so lightly roast half a teaspoon of seeds in a pan for literally 10 seconds. They could burn quite quickly so be watchful and enjoy the warm nutty smell filling your kitchen :)

2) Grind: Once you've roasted, grind the seeds with whatever you use to grind herbs and spices till it's about half smooth and half chunky. Pour this into a small bowl.

3) Squeeze: Use about a teaspoon of lemon juice, remember it's acidic so don't use too much and pour it into the bowl with the seeds.

4) Drizzle: Add a teaspoon of honey to the bowl.

5) Pour: Add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil.

6) Mix & Slather: Mix all the ingredients, slather on your face and leave for about 10-15 minutes. You might look like you've got black chicken pox, but boy is it all worth it in the end. Use twice a week. Warning: it is quite tickly.

7) Wash & enjoy: After having it on for 10-15 minutes, before you wash it off, exfoliate your skin gently in circular motions then wash your face with warm water. Be patient as the skin of the seeds are quite hard to remove off your face because of the oil, but they will come off. Pat dry with a clean face cloth and enjoy your baby bum soft and glowy face. I do not use moisturiser after this, but you can if you want to.

I wouldn't suggest that you keep any left overs in a fridge as it doesn't feel as good as it is when used "fresh". I've tried both ways and I prefer it the "fresher" way :)

My mother loves this as she's all about the au naturel approach when it comes to skin care, so it'll be a great mask to use with your mother on a cold winter evening.

Have you tried this? Are there any other masks you whip up? Please do let me know! I love hearing from you girlies.

It is narrated in a hadith by Abu Huraira that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Use the black seed because it has a relief of all diseases, but death.' Bukhaari and Muslim

Love,

Fatima XOXO
